Journey khổng lồ the West (Chinese: 西遊記) is a 1996 Hong Kong TV series produced by TVB, based on the classic Chinese novel of the same name.The series was very popular during its original run on TVB Jade, mostly because of Dicky Cheung's performance as the Monkey King Sun Wukong. In 1998, the series was redubbed in English & broadcasted on TVB Pearl, the only TVB series to have received such treatment to lớn date.A sequel, Journey to lớn the West II, was broadcasted in 1998, but the role of Sun Wukong was played by Benny Chan instead, due khổng lồ contract problems between Dicky Cheung and TVB. Cheung later reprised the role in another series entitled The Monkey King - Quest for the Sutra (2002), which was broadcasted on TVB but not produced by it.

《西游记》是中国四大名着之一，这部家喻户晓的小说曾多次被改篇成电视剧、电影、动画及漫画等。而由TVB制作的《西游记I、II》于1996年及1998年推出，分别由张卫健及陈浩民饰演主角孙悟空，而其他三位主角唐僧、猪八戒及沙僧，则同样由江华、黎耀祥及麦长青担演。《西游记》于96年首播时大受欢迎，曾创下高达44点的收视纪录，各演员亦因此人气急升，尤以小朋友及年青人最为受落。而张卫健在剧中独创的名句：「Yo！取西经！使乜惊呀？」更成为当时很多香港人的口头禅。《西游记II》的孙悟空一角因换上了陈浩民，曾引起了一阵争议，但依然吸引到不少捧场客，因其生动的情节及精彩的特技效果，令剧集生色不少。而两辑《西游记》更可说是齐集全台精英，有份演出的演员多不胜数，包括楚原、龚慈恩、陈秀珠、刘家辉、陈妙瑛、马德钟、吕有慧、惠英红、张慧仪、郭政鸿、钱嘉乐、邓兆尊、卢庆辉、汤盈盈、李国麟、许秋怡、罗兰、刘玉翠、盖鸣晖、吴美珩、苏玉华、梁荣忠、潘志文、刘丹、秦煌、苑琼丹、骆应钧、罗敏庄、黄德斌、陈彦行、欧倩怡、邝文珣等。各演员互斗演技，将角色发挥得淋漓尽致，令两辑《西游记》成为TVB九十年代的经典剧集。
